If you’re very new to the world of organic skincare, you need to be patient with yourself. The shift from commercial skincare to all organic can be very simple. However, the use of various items can get a bit confusing.
If you want to get the most out of your organic products, consider my top four guidelines.
One at a Time
While it might be tempting, don’t ditch your whole skincare routine in one go. Switch just one or two products at the beginning to make the shift easier on your skin. If you make a drastic change, it could be stressful and cause breakouts, redness, rashes and more. This can be more frustrating than swapping out products one by one.
Starting slowly also allows you to observe the results and watch for any allergic reactions. Since organic products are made with organic ingredients, any allergies — particularly nut allergies — can be easily aggravated.
Make Room for the Transition Period
Your skin’s physiology is unique. Any product you use has to work with how your skin functions in order to produce the results you want. So it’s going to need a transition period to adjust to the new product.
As you use more and more organic products, your skin will cleanse itself of the toxins it contains. This typically causes breakouts as the chemicals from commercial products leave your body.
The transition period lasts different amounts of time for different people. It can take a week or two, a few months, or simply a few days. Don’t rush the process.
Give the Products Time to See Results
With the transition period, you have to understand that it will take some time for your skin to start showing results. Thus, you need to be patient. Things might get worse before they get better — and they will get better. So don’t be too quick to throw out a product you just started using because you think it isn’t working.
You might have to wait a month before you see the difference the product has made to your skin. If you aren’t seeing any results within six weeks, and the transition period seems to be expanding, it’s time to ditch the product.
Even though it’s made with organic ingredients, those ingredients might just not work with your skin. Swap it out with another all-natural product to see if you can get better results.
Be a Smart Shopper
When you’re shopping for organic products, you can help your skin by focusing on high-quality organic products.
You have to pay attention to all of the details. From the list of ingredients to understanding the difference between vegan and cruelty-free products, every little bit of info counts.
Because a product is simply labeled “all-natural,” it doesn’t mean it’s completely organic. Look for organic symbols and certifications, and take a peek at the ingredients to see if they’re labeled there.
You want to get the best products possible. A smart shopper is a happy shopper and it’s better to be safe than sorry.
