Through the years, you’ve probably crafted a skincare routine that works for you. You might take some time in the morning before work or wait until just before going to bed. You could use a few items or all of the products and gadgets covering your bathroom counter.
But have you taken a step back lately? Look at the products you are using. Pay attention to what you are doing. Is there room to improve your routine? Improving the products you use and how you use them will improve the way your skin looks, feels and functions.
Here are the top 10 things you’re probably doing wrong in your skincare routine.
1. Not having a routine
First and foremost… Do you have a skincare routine? Showering or splashing water on your face isn’t enough to clear the dirt and dead skin that build up throughout the day. Get an easy start with the basics: face wash, toner, moisturizer and serum.
2. Using Big Cosmo products
Big Cosmo is a collective term for the large companies who make popular skincare and beauty products. Many of them use chemicals, preservatives, emulsifiers, fragrances and fillers (mostly water) to inflate products. Their added ingredients might treat symptoms; however, they won’t cure the root issue. They might even cause other problems. Then you’d have to buy more products… which could then cause more problems.
Go all-natural with ALL of your products. Skincare companies such as Primal Life Organics use all-natural, organic ingredients to provide you with the best possible products. Your real skin needs real ingredients. It doesn’t need water, fillers, mystery fragrance blends, and other toxic ingredients. Your skin won’t be nourished and can’t heal using those.
3. Not using an SPF
If you’re not using a sun protector or moisturizer with an SPF on your face, you’re on the fast track to aging your skin. Sun damage can cause discoloration, wrinkles and age spots. By using a sun protector or a moisturizer with oils that have a natural SPF, you’ll block UVA and UVB rays from causing harm.
4. Using too much product
If you’re using all-natural skincare, you don’t need the same amount of product as commercial skincare. All-natural products are made with 100% active ingredients — a little goes a long way. Most commercial products list water as their main ingredient. When water is in a product, you’ll need to use a lot more to get the results you want. Yet when a product is packed with powerful ingredients, start with a very small amount. You can always add more if you need to — you just can’t put any extra back.
5. Dragging your skin down
Do you put your face products on in a hurry or haphazardly? You can easily be dragging your skin down while you’re applying them. Be conscious of what you are doing. Gently apply your products in an upward motion. You should move the products in the way you want your face to go. Pulling them down your face will drag your skin down. This will cause premature aging and unwanted wrinkles.
6. Scrubbing your face with a towel
Pushing a towel up and down your face can also cause premature wrinkles and sagging skin. Gently pat the
towel on your face to dry your skin after washing it. Scrubbing may also irritate the skin. Don’t try to exfoliate with the hand towel that sits in your bathroom all week. Instead, get an exfoliator to do the job — because that’s what exfoliators do.
7. Being too rough under your eyes
The skin under your eyes is very thin and delicate. When you’re applying products under your eyes, do not rub it in. Dot it on, then gently pat it into your skin. Try to move your skin around the least amount possible. And just use a small amount of product. More product doesn’t mean it will work any better or faster.
8. Not taking preventative measures
When you’re young, you might not think about taking care of your skin. If it looks good now, why should you? You should because the years will soon add up. You’ll begin to notice fine lines, wrinkles and age spots. It just won’t feel or look the same.
If you’re using Big Cosmo products, that time will come a lot sooner. Even worse, the damage is already starting. But since it’s at a cellular level, you can’t see it yet. Don’t wait to see the damage to start healing your skin.
9. Not taking care of your insides
Not getting enough sleep, eating bad foods, and not drinking enough water can take a toll on your skin. You can use the best skincare possible, but it will do nothing if the rest of your body is tired, dehydrated and sick. Not taking care of yourself won’t allow your skin to heal. The issues you already have won’t clear up and new problems could occur.
10. Thinking there is a quick fix
Buying products that promise a quick fix is basically buying bottles of lies. This is especially true if you use a lot commercial products packed with toxic ingredients. They might cover up an issue or heal it for a day… but soon enough, the acne, rash and wrinkles are back. Healing and nourishing your skin takes time. Whether you’re using commercial products or skincare made with all-natural ingredients, be patient.
